And then there were two

And so the second round of the Spring 2026 GMG Invitational league has been a resounding success, the venue this time was the wonderful Lyme Regis Golf club, on the edge of the jurassic coast and a place that I cannot recommend enough as both a wonderful day out, and an amazing location to play some golf. The well kept course with beautiful landscapes has been a pleasure to play and we will most certainly coming back, the club house was also very welcoming and the variety of food and drink available was a treat to the tired golfers. The golf itself was of varying quality, some was good and some was bad … what can I say the score cards speak for themselves. This game is always a lesson in humility and has a way of bringing you back to earth should you start aiming outside of your skill level.

But enough chitchat, I leave you with the scores and some images that left us with fond memories and promise to come back soon.

Here is the evidence 🙂

And we were off !!! The events have officially started and we have had a wet and muddy first round at Crediton Golf Club. The results have been … well less than stellar as expected but we are in this to have fun and play Golf, as time progresses I am sure better scores will come. In the meantime here is the scorecard and some picture to illustrate how much fun we had.

14 Feb 2026 the sun came out to greet us

Cold, damp and muddy. Just what the doctor ordered

2026 has been so far very wet and cold providing us with very little time for golf. Nonetheless today was the first day of bright sun in a while, allowing for some pitching around the Honiton golf club practice area. I also did a 9 hole training run but the less we talk about that the better! It’s not been great out there weather wise … that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! It was in any case a chance to play the regular course layout instead of the reduced 9 holes with temporary greens that we have been playing during winter. It was also a good practice for me to get hole number 2 out of my head …. God knows how many balls I have lost to those hedges so far! The results were far from brilliant but hey it’s been only 9 months since I first held a golf club so I don’t think I can ask for much in terms of scoring.

In any case you can see bellow some examples of me trying to practice chipping and pitching, as I feel the short game is still something that needs a lot of work. This is not something we can practice at the driving range either so developing this important skill is vital now as better weather hopefully approaches.

We hope to have more interesting posts soon with details of our adventures playing golf out there. In the meanwhile some practice will do us all some good.

See you soon

Hello there !

Greetings and welcome to the “Golfists Cup”, we are a group of friends that have started playing Golf together and are very keen on doing some challenges and documenting our adventures. We are starting by playing the courses closest to us and try to play different clubs as we go, not only to play golf for the joy of playing but to ensure we get exposed to a variety of conditions and perhaps improve our game as we go.
